Ingredients
  • 1 Chinese hot pot broth Chic! Fondue by 1001 Fondues, 200 g (7 oz.)
  • 1 fondue Chic! au vin (wine) by 1001 Fondues, snack size, 125 g (4 oz.)
  • 45—60ml (3–4 tbsp.) olive oil
  • 2 onions, diced
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 750 ml (3 cups) celery, diced
  • 750 ml (3 cups) carrots, diced
  • 675 g (1 1/2 lbs) ground beef
  • 15 ml (1 tbsp.) Italian seasoning
  • 5 ml (1 tsp.) dried basil
  • 5 ml (1 tsp.) dried oregano
  • 5 ml (1 tsp.) crushed red pepper flakes
  • 750 ml (3 cups) water
  • 796 ml (28 oz) canned diced tomatoes
  • 796 ml (28 oz) crushed tomatoes, canned
  • 2 x 156 ml (5.5 oz) tomato paste
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 15 ml (1 tbsp.) sugar
  • 454 g (1 lb) button mushrooms, quartered
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
  1. In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Sauté the onions, garlic, celery, and carrots, stirring frequently for 10–12 minutes. Add more oil if necessary.
  2. Add the ground beef, cooking it in large chunks.
  3. Add all remaining ingredients except the mushrooms. Season with salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, stirring regularly. Reduce to low heat and simmer for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  4. Adjust seasoning as needed. Add the mushrooms and cook for an additional 15 minutes.
  5. Prepare the fondue according to the package cooking instructions.
  6. Serve the sauce over spaghetti and drizzle with cheese fondue.
